Today Intel has finally confirmed what’s going on with their Haswell-E processors. Information released mentions Intel’s 4th generation i7 processors release date to be in the 3rd quarter of 2014.
Haswell-E Processor Prices
The Haswell-E CPU’s will see an increase in cores, there would be three tiers of CPU’s according to their respective core. The 1st tier with 6 cores, the 2nd tier with 8 cores and the 3rd tier would be the Extreme Edition i7 with 8 cores. The price will range from $400 for the regular 6 Core CPU, while the mid range 8 core CPU will be sold at $600 and the Extreme 8 core CPU will cost $1000.
Haswell-E Socket Compatibility
The processors will make use of the LGA 2011-3 socket which will have the same pin count as the previous LGA 2011 but, because of the pin mapping it will not be compatible with the already available LGA 2011 motherboards. Some of the first LGA 2011-3 socket motherboards along with the support of Intel’s X99 chipset will have up to 10 SATA 6GB/s ports, USB 3.0 and the most awaited innovation of the year, DDR4 memory.
The Haswell-E is based on the 22nm architecture which will also make use of the Turbo Boost 2.0 and PCI-E 3 though it would be nice to hear something on the PCI-E 4 this CES. The Haswell as well would feature the Hyper-threading.
X99 and Haswell E Launch Dates
No official names have been announced yet for the CPU variants and while they will be out in the Q3 of 2014, according to some sources the X99 chipset motherboards are set to launch in April 2014.
