The 4K resolution might not be viable for most gamers because of its very high price, but how about satisfying yourself with a 3K resolution? Well of course that’s a silly thing to ask, but how about mentioning a 3k resolution laptop?
Yes that’s correct, MSI have just launched 2 of their best grade laptops for both gamers and workstation users, both have a 2880×1620 3K resolution monitor. Running a laptop at the 3K resolution would require a high-grade gpu, for that purpose the MSI GT60 2OD-261US gaming laptop uses the GTX 780M mobile graphics card while the workstation dedicated GT60 2OKWS-278US laptop uses a Quadro K3100 workstation graphics card.
Talking about the design, both the laptops will have full-color programmable backlit keyboards by SteelSeries and will also be available in the traditional black color.
Getting more into the hardware specifications, both the laptops are equipped with Intel’s Core i7 4700MQ (2.4GHz – 3.4GHz turbo), 16GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM and a 128GB SSD + 1TB HD. As for the display both have a 15.6inch WQHD+ screen while the laptop also supports a HDMI connection. All the basics like Bluetooth, WiFi, USB ports along with a BlueRay R/W are present.
As for different component choices, other than the GPU there aren’t any except the optical drive and OS. The 3K gaming laptop comes with Window 8 while the 3K resolution mobile workstation comes with Windows 7 Professional.
It was a nice move by MSI bringing the 3K resolution into portabilty for gamers who are mad on visuals and are always on the go, as well as for developers who need to move from time to time. Although the GPU is the latest generation for gaming, alone though doesn’t seem powerful enough to run the most overly graphical games at a 3K resolution at a smooth 60FPS.
Well even if it doesn’t, you would be able to squeeze 30-40 FPS which is required for a great gameplay experience for a cost of $2,199.99. The MSI GT60 2OKWS-278US workstation is priced at $2799,99.
